- “Masses of people” video
- 3 objects
Crises and difficulties are an integral part of human existence and can serve as a catalyst for self-awareness and personal growth. Jean-Paul Sartre emphasized the importance of freedom of choice and individual responsibility for one’s actions and for shaping one’s essence.
On this path, recognizing and accepting inevitable destruction and change is key to understanding being and stimulates inner transformation, leading, as Martin Heidegger suggests, to authentic existence.
Disasters and destruction, despite the chaos and pain they bring, can be powerful stimuli for change and development. It is crucial to recognize and embrace these destructive forces as part of the growth and renewal process.
In this context, the shirt serves as a metaphor for human life, subject to the effects of time and external influences. In everyday life, the shirt provides protection and is a significant part of our public image. In the work “Collapse, ” the shirt symbolizes personality and individuality, which are impacted by time and external circumstances. The mesh structure highlights the fragility and vulnerability of the human essence, as well as its capacity for change.
The white paint, both concealing and revealing the mesh, symbolizes the process of inner purification and renewal, emphasizing that true transformation occurs through the recognition and acceptance of inevitable changes.
The white paint represents both destruction and purification, marking the end of one cycle and the beginning of a new one.
The video “Masses of people” explores the inherent human condition — the internal struggle that occurs under the influence of external factors; as well as the themes of alienation and strangeness. Through the images of three people in knitted shirts covered in white paint, it is proposed to reflect on freedom, responsibility and the inevitability of crises that shape our existence.
A person, having lost awareness of themselves, dissolves into the environment, becoming part of a crowd, drawn into a routine existence. If one does not take responsibility for their life, this person is sucked into everyday life, turning into an automated participant. This state of alienation and strangeness, when a person feels like a stranger in their own life, reinforces the feeling of isolation and detachment from reality.
The video is a collaborative project with the Dodo Theater.
