In the project “Dinner Party”, I bring a familiar social event into an exhibition space.
The project is connected to a shift in my artistic method: from creating separate images and objects to working with a situation. I am interested in setting up its conditions in advance and observing how they change with the arrival of people and the unfolding of the event itself.
At the center of the project is a table. The setting brings together food, my artworks, dried flowers, fragments of dishes and glass, found objects, and both intact and broken things. On the same surface, elements related to preparation, the meal itself, and its aftermath are present at the same time. Traces of what has already happened appear before the gathering even begins.
The table establishes the initial form of the event: the arrangement of objects, distances, height, fragile materials, and sound. During the dinner, this structure gradually changes. Food disappears, things are moved, dishes are used, and new traces emerge. The artworks become part of this process and begin to depend on the actions of the participants just like the other elements of the table setting.
For me, the dinner is connected to family memories of celebrations and to the difference between an event as it is imagined in advance and the way it actually unfolds. The prepared table already contains a certain expectation of the gathering, which then encounters its real course.
In “Dinner Party”, I am interested in this interval between a situation assembled in advance and the event as it happens. The work continues to take shape over time through food, conversations, movement, accidental gestures, and the traces left after the gathering.
